Joshua Clottey: I will love to fight in Ghana

Former world champion Joshua Clottey has played down reports that he is set to fight in Ghana this July 28, but the man famously called the Hitter has exclusively told SportsInGhana.com he has the burning desire to mount the ring on the homeland once again.

Clottey says plans for a collaboration between Happy FM and Victor Ahiakpor’s Heart of Lions Promotions on the said July 28 date was too short and faced many difficulties including even a rainy season, but he definitely will welcome the proposal to fight in Ghana once again.

“It’s a good idea because this is my country and at the moment I’m working very hard to get back into the ring. I will take it as one of my tune-up fights because I’m still in boxing and looking to fight again soon and it will be great if I can have one in Ghana again,” Clottey has exclusively told the Ghana based website www.sportsinghana.com.

The former IBF Welterweight champion says he is working on a deal now with Joe DeGuardia who will become his agent and could possibly fight in the US as early as August 17. But Clottey is not rushing into any quick decisions yet because he wants his career run professionally.

“I’m still in boxing and I’m still training. When you are on top, everybody thinks about you but when you are down, they forget you. I know it’s been a while but I’m patient because I’ve still got at least four more years of my career to come,” he explained further.

The Ghanaian also called Grandmaster also remains focused on the ambition to execute revenges on some of the biggest names he lost close and controversial decisions to, not least Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto. “If I start again, it will go fast fast. Of course I want to be world champion again and I also want the opportunity to beat Pacquiao and Cotto. I’m not finished yet and hopefully by next week we shall get full information on the August 17 date,” Clottey stated.
