Golf’s MTN Spoons 2012 season tees off

The first quarter of this year’s MTN Spoons golf play teed off at the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono on February 4 with competition set to be fiercer than last year’s edition ever was. The MTN Spoons play began last year and is a competition played in pairs and at the convenience of the golfers at specified dates in four different quarters all year long.

“We are excited to meet you once again to begin another year of interesting encounters on the golf course and we hope to experience more excitement as we compete to pick trophies.

“Competition is good as it gives us the opportunity to achieve greater results whilst building stronger relationships with our fellow golfers,” Mike Ikpoki, CEO of MTN Ghana pledged in his welcome speech.

A maximum of 64 golfers with men handicap allowance of 18 and handicap 24 limit for ladies started play last Saturday each with spoons they received after paying the entry fee.

32 of those golfers beat their opponents to collect their spoons and now boast two spoons each going into the second round which must be played from 5th February to 14th February at the convenience of the two golfers in 16 pair of matches.

Winners of the second round will then receive the two spoons of the respective opponents they had beaten to gain 4 spoons each going into the third round of 16 golfers. These 16 golfers will be drawn to play against each other in pairs of two between 15th and 24th February to determine eight winners with eight spoons each going into round 4 which is the quarter finals.

The eight quarter finals will also be drawn against each other to play between February 24 to March 4 for four semi final places and 16 spoons apiece. The four semi finalists will then engage each other in two pairs of matches to be played between March 5 and 14 to determine the two players who will compete the final slated for March 17.

Both finalists will of course then have 32 spoons each with the winner receiving all 64 with which competition was begun. The 64 spoons will then be returned to the Celebrity Golf Club Manager for a trophy to be subsequently presented to the winner and set the stage for the commencement of the second quarter.

“The theme for this year’s Spoons competition is ‘MTN – Your Total Business Solutions Partner.’ MTN Business is a unit created to support and provide tailor-made ICT solutions to support all businesses to adopt converged telecommunications services from a single provider,” MTN CEO Mike Ikpoki revealed in his closing speech.

Mr. Ikpoki further added another promise: “At MTN, we are committed to the highest level of customer satisfaction and loyalty. Indeed, that is what drives us. The MTN Business team will be here during subsequent events to do a presentation to share deeper insights on how MTN can partner your business to grow.”
