Kotoko qualify for next stage of FA competition

Kumasi, Jan. 31, GNA - Defending FA champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Sunday served notice about their determination to retain the MTN FA Cup when they chalked a convincing 3-0 victory over Division Two side, Danbort FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Ahmed Toure scored the opener in the first minute when he connected home an in-swinger from Yaw Frimpong in a beautiful defense-splitting move. Nathaniel Asamoah and Michael Akuffo added their names to the scores sheet in the 30th and 35th minutes respectively to send their teeming supporters into wild jubilation.

Kotoko stepped up pressure on Danbort in the second half of the game but the visitors' defense spearheaded by Francis Osei, Seidu Mohammed and David Mensah stood gallantly to fend off any more goals. The Porcupine Warriors came close to scoring in the 69th and 75th minutes but marksmen Toure and Asamoah messed up the chances.
