Richard Kingson seals Blackpool move

Blackpool have signed Ghana World Cup goalkeeper Richard Kingson on a one-year contract with the option of a further year.

The Accra-born player is a free agent following his release by Wigan. The move for the 32-year-old, who previously had a brief spell with Birmingham, is subject to work permit and Premier League clearance.

He has now rejoined the Ghana international squad ahead of their game with Swaziland on Sunday.

Kingson was part of the Ghana side who controversially lost a penalty shoot-out against Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in South Africa. He has been signed due to a long term injury to Paul Rachubka.

"I have to prove myself in the Premier League," Kingson said. "It is an unfulfilled mission for me.

He has signed a one-year contract with the option for a further year, although he must still wait for confirmation of his work permit.

"Richard flew in from Ghana on Wednesday morning, completed his medical and paperwork before heading back out on Thursday morning to link up with his national team ahead of their game on Sunday with Swaziland," club secretary Matt Williams told the club's official website.

"We are currently waiting for confirmation of the player's work permit and the usual clearances from the FA and PL, but we are delighted to welcome Richard aboard."
