Vodafone and Right to Dream Academy scouting hits Sunyani

Accra, Aug. 20, GNA - The Vodafone sponsored Right to Dream Football Academy has concluded its scouting exercise at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The participating Clubs who were made up of 16 Under-14 and 16 Under-12 teams drawn from the Region, participated in the two day justify-your-inclusion football tournament at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

The participants' show-cased their excellent football skills in a bid to attract a call up into the Academy.

In the Under-14 category, Eleven Lions beat Young Kotoko 2-0 on penalties in the finals of the competition with Young Goldfields winning the Under-12 category after they also beat Chiraa based Abibiman FC 3-2 on penalties.

The winners received GHc200.00 cash, a Ghc5.00 worth of phone credit and a Vodafone Polo T-shirt for the coach and each player as their prizes.

The runner-ups also took home Ghc100.00 cash, a Ghc5.00 worth of credit and a Vodafone polo T-shirt for the coach and each player.

Master Yakubu Seidu of Liverpool FC emerged the overall Best Player of the tournament in the Under-12 division and took home a mobile phone, GHc 5 worth of credit and a Vodafone Polo T-shirt.

In the Under-14 category, Master Samuel Ado of Eleven Lions was adjudged the Best Player and also received a similar package.

Gordon Wellu of the Media Relations Unit of Vodafone said the exercise was in support of the Academy's plan of offering opportunities to talented but deprived young footballers to fulfill their true potential in sports and education.

He said Vodafone has signed a three-year sponsorship partnership with the Right to Dream Academy and the move is to support the development of sports at the grassroots level in the country and to help to shape the future for many deprived children.

Andy Farrat, a member of the Technical Team of Right to Dream Academy, praised the participating teams for their excellent performance, adding that those who were picked would eventually join their colleagues from other regions at the Academy where they would receive quality education while playing football.

The Right to Dream football road show will soon move to other parts of the country to select young and talented players for the Academy.

According to the organizers, a minimum of 16 and maximum of 23 players will be selected nationwide into the Right to Dream Academy under a five-year educational scholarship.

The Right to Dream Academy is a non-profit charity registered in Ghana, Sierra Leone, UK and US established some ten (10) years ago.

It offers under-privileged children in the country the opportunity to develop their sports skills and talents while achieving academic excellence at the same time.

Under the project, the under-privileged children receive a five-year educational scholarship at age 11.

There are presently about ninety (90) students in the Right to Dream Academy receiving top class education while nurturing their football talents.
