Commey floors Kotey at GAABA Championship

Accra, Dec 13, GNA -Raymond Commey of Square Deal boxing Gym proved his critics wrong with a surprise performance to stop James Kotey of Wisdom Gym in the fourth round in their featherweight clash at the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) Championship last Friday, at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonment.

Commey, a regular loser, stunned all with an output that can only be described as a result of persistent training. Noted for his heavy punches, the Square Deal Gym lad started very well by landing several jabs on the face of Kotey, who clearly, was not up to the task. Despite being at the receiving end, Kotey endured till the final round, before a right-hook from Commey sent him to the canvass. Referee Ortis Quaye stopped the bout after Kotey failed to survive the mandatory count.

In the other featherweight clash, Raphael Mensah of Wisdom Gym proved superior over Fit Square's Emmanuel Quartey, courtesy a majority decision.

Musah Rahman Lawson also defeated Patrick Aryee in an-all Wisdom Gym bantamweight clash via a unanimous decision, whilst Fit Square's Jesse Lartey beat Sulemana Tetteh of Wisdom Gym on a split decision in their flyweight contest. In the lightwelter weight division, Benjamin Lamptey of Will Power outclassed Michael Ansah of Square Deal also through a unanimous decision whilst Joshua Addy of Wisdom stopped Akotoku's Oppong Antwi in the third round. 13 Dec. 08
