Zoomlion support supporters with $50,000

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman and CEO of ZoomLion Group of Companies has promised the Ghana Supporters Union a whopping $50,000 to cushion them in their travel preparations, organization and motivation to support the Black Stars to the finals of the African Nations Cup in South Africa.

He disclosed this when the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Black Stars and the Sports Media paid a courtesy call at their ultra modern Accra Compost and the Recycling Plant at Medie in the Ga West District of Greater Accra which is the first in West Africa.

Dr. Agyepong reckoned that after a 31-year trophy drought, it is time for the new generation of young, hungry players to go out there to South Africa and bring home the coveted trophy which the nation has already won four times, the last in 1982 in Libya. Dr. Agyepong charged the Black Stars to chase every ball on the field, defend very well like ZoomLion does in the fight against filth. “You must chase and win like we do at ZoomLion. These are two key aspects of Sports and Sanitation, as well as the Black Stars,” he said. The ZoomLion boss expressed that the outstanding performance of the Black Stars has sustained people’s interest in football.

“Black Stars have brought joy to many homes and placed Ghana high on the international scene after going to the FIFA World Cup on two occasions,” he noted.

He advised the players and technical men to stay focused and be motivated as it is possible if they are objective and prepared to bring the Cup home. He urged Ghanaians not to just criticize the players but support them to the core, and encourage them when the going gets tough.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the GFA who was visibly excited with the visit noted that through the medium of Football, Black Stars have become an advocacy group for the eradication of Malaria and now adding clean environment. “Cleanliness is next to godliness,” he stressed and assured that the Black Stars will be available in the advocacy programmes of the company. The Municipal Chief Executive of Ga West, Nii A. Tackie said sports can unite Ghana and hoped that the Stars win in South Africa to ease the political tension. He begged the government to complete the supposed Olympic Stadium in Ga West which is at a standstill. He further stressed that Ghanaians believe in the Black Stars.

Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu who stood in for Asamoah Gyan the skipper, was overjoyed with ZoomLion and assured that they will go all out to bring home the cup.

The Management of Zoom Lion donated a miniature truck to signify how they work to overcome filth and pollution, whilst the GFA officials gave the MD a jersey signed by the players and he was promised one of the jerseys to be used at AFCON 2013 in South Africa.

The event which was a charged one with the Nationwide Supporters Union (NSU) and the Die Hard Supporters Group doing their own things with National Teams Drummer, Joseph Langabell directing the music and Abeiku Santana, the Master of Ceremonies, it was not for nothing that Dr. Agyepong made the $50,000 promise.
