Western Region to host Basic Schools Sports Festival

Takoradi, Aug. 6, GNA – The Western Regional Director of Education, Mr Augustus Cleland on Monday said that the Region has the prospect of hosting the 30th edition of the Inter-Regional Basic Schools Sports Festival later this year.

The event, slated for the 2 -9 September, would see participating schools from all the Regions of the country converging at the Sekondi College and Sekondi Sports Stadium to compete in various discipline.

Mr Cleland in a release copied to the GNA Sports at Takoradi mentioned some of the disciplines to compete for as soccer, volleyball, handball, table tennis, netball, athletics and cross-country.

This year’s Sports Festival would be under the distinguished patronage of the Minister of Education, the Western Regional Coordinating Council and the Director General of the Ghana Education Service.

The week-long Festival would sea over 1,700 pupils competing for medals in the various sporting events.
