Ghana’s world title hopeful, Richard Commey (23-0, 21 KO’s), paid a courtesy call last Thursday to one of Ghana’s renowned lawyers and politician, Philip Addison, at his office in Accra.

Commey’s team was led by trainer Carl Lokko. Communication Director of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Naa Darkuah Dodoo was also in attendance.

The purpose of the visit was to inform the renowned legal practitioner of their plan to annex the world title, beginning with the hard-hitting lightweight’s IBF title eliminator later in March.

Mr. Addison, who is a boxing fan and a friend to current GBA boss Peter Zwennes, advised Commey to remain focused on his training and is optimistic that the 28 year-old fighter will win a world title for Ghana.

“I have heard and read about Commey,” Addison said. “He is a good fighter but my advice to him is to stay focused, be determined and I’m sure he will win the world title. He shouldn’t pay attention to what the media says about him, his main focus should be on his training and the sky will be his limit.”

Commey, in his speech, noted, “I know to be a world champion is not easy, but I see myself as a chosen one because in the history of Ghana boxing, we have not had a lightweight boxer winning the world title. All the titles that we have won are from the featherweight, middleweight and welterweight.

“So my aim and target is to be the first boxer to achieve that. For me, irrespective of the number of times I will visit the canvas, at the end I will surely be the winner and I thank Mr Addison for welcoming us.”
