Participants attend football courses

Accra, May 4, GNA - Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decried the low turnout of females at seminars and courses in the sporting field.

He noted that since women have a crucial role to play in every human endeavour they should show an interest and be part of the development of sports. Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said this at the opening of a week-long course for football administrators, coaches and referees at the Accra Stadium on Tuesday.

He also urged women to endeavour to widen their outlook through such seminars to gather much more experience to enable them join hands with their male counterparts for the overall development of sports. The courses are being run as part of the GFA's five-year development programme, which was initiated by the former Chairman of the GFA, Mr Ben Koufie.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe re-iterated his resolve to ensure the continuous development of the programme and pledged to enrich it with more training schemes "directed at the grassroots level".

"You have been selected to participate in this course as part of a project to produce quality manpower to support the development and promotion of Ghana Football", he said.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe re-affirmed that the GFA's focus will be on supporting and developing the colts and youth games at the junior levels and urged the participants to make their expertise available to them so as to enrich the nation's league and national teams.

He said that the GFA would soon deal with premier clubs which cheat colts clubs by signing on their players without paying them the requisite transfer fees and denying them the gains of their toil.

Mr George Dasoberi, co-ordinator of the programme and resource person announced that the certificates to be obtained at the course would enable the participants to work within and outside the country Ghana and therefore advised them to take their lessons seriously. Mr B.K. Awakye, Greater Accra Sports Development Officer and Mr Albert Agbozo, Acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council also graced the occasion.
