Nyantakyi hopes to see Ghana host more international events

Ghana FA President Kwasi Nyantakyi dreams of the day Ghana will be in the position to host several international events.

The Nations Cup was the last world acclaimed football tournament hosted in the West African state in 2008.

The nation’s inability to bid and host the numerous international competitions on offer has often been hinged on scarce resources despite its tremendous ability to drive infrastructure and the economy.

The GFA boss who left for London on Saturday to work at the 2012 Olympic Games for Fifa however says he hopes Ghana eventually finds itself in the position to host such events as it presents an opportunity for massive development.

“Hosting an event gives you the host country an opportunity to develop your infrastructure,” he said.

“I was in South Africa not long ago and I saw the effect of the hosting of the World Cup.

“If the football association had enough resources we will be hosting so many events.

“If we were to do that (host an event) a lot of facilities will spring up all over the country, If we look at Tamale and Sekondi for instance, if Ghana hadn’t hosted the 2008 (Nations Cup) we probably wouldn’t have had such facilities there.

“A lot of hospitals and health facilities enjoyed upgrading during the tournament, even roads underwent some refurbishment and its good.

“If I had my way but the football association does not have the resources to bid and host a competition. Our expectation is limited to just the organization aspect of it.

“I am looking forward to that, just a year or two ago we missed the opportunity to host the U-17 World Cup here. We were almost through.

“The decision does not lie entirely in the hands of the football association, there is some political considerations added to it.

“I hope we will be able to host some international competitions in the near future.”
