Medeama beat Young Africans in CAF Confederations Cup

Medeama SC recorded their first win at the Group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup after beating Tanzanian Club Young Africans 3-1 at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi on Tuesday.

The Mauves kept their hopes of progressing to the semi-finals alive with a resounding victory over the Southern African side.

Defender Daniel Amoah gave Medeama the lead after heading home from a corner kick minutes after Eric Kwakwa had missed a glorious opportunity.

Midfielder Malik Akowuah could not give Medeama a cushioning in the first 10 minutes after he missed his penalty kick following a foul on Bernard Ofori in the 18-yard box.

Coach Prince Owusu’s side however got the match-needed goal in the 13th minute through a strike by Abass Mohammed.

The visitors pulled one back through a well-taken spot kick by Simon.

Abass Mohammed restored his side’s two-goal lead by netting his second on the day in the 42nd minute.

The Ghanaian Club could not increase their tally in the second half of the game despite some few opportunities that came their way.

Medeama will need to beat Congolese giants TP Mazembe in their next game in other to enhance their chances of qualifying to the Semi-finals.

The Ghanaian super cup champions are still third in Group A with 5 points after four matches.
