Malawi captain vows to break Ghanaian hearts

Malawi captain Peter Mbonda is speaking tough ahead of their crunch tie against the Black Stars at the Accra Stadium on Saturday afternoon. He says his side are unfazed by the superior opponents they face in the final round of their quest to earn a historic Africa Cup of Nations ticket for next year’s tournament.

Before he leads the Flames into the biggest game in their country’s history against the four time African champions, South Africa based Mbonda has exclusively told www.sports.com.gh his side will neither be intimidated by any home advantage, vociferous fans nor the perceived big stars set to feature for Ghana.

“There is nothing we have to worry about, we never fear anything in football. We are here to play with the Ghana national team, not their fans. It’s true that Ghana are a big country with big football players but they are human beings like us so we are not afraid.” Peter Mbonda told www.sports.com.gh after training at the Accra Sports Stadium Friday afternoon.

He is also confidently predicting that Malawi will turn the books upside down and deliver what could be one of the biggest upsets in African football history by beating the Black Stars on their own home turf in the first leg of this, one of 15 such tied across the continent over the weekend.

“Anything can happen in the game of football and I can tell you that that we are here to beat Ghana, we don’t want even a draw. We don’t think that we’ll win, what will happen is that we will win,” Mbonda said full of poise.
