Kotey Loses Unanimous Decision

World Boxing Organization (WBO) Junior Lightweight Champion Acelino Freitas won a lopsided unanimous decision over former WBO bantamweight champion Alfred Kotey in a 10-round lightweight bout. The fight card was promoted by America Presents Boxing, LLC in association with Banner Promotions.

Freitas (30-0, 29 KOs), of Salvador, Brazil, was unable to extend his impressive knockout streak to 30, but did manage to win a unanimous decision over tough and durable Kotey (24-8-1, 15 KOs), of Accra, Ghana.

Freitas consistently hit the former WBO bantamweight champion with combinations throughout the fight. Kotey did catch Freitas with some shots later in the bout but did not do enough to win a single round. In the seventh round, Freitas caught Kotey with a stunning right hand and proceeded to swarm the challenger who managed to survive until the bell. In the end, the judges ruled unanimously in favor of Freitas by scores of 100-89, and 100-90 twice. After the fight it was disclosed that Freitas had injured his right hand in the fifth round. The doctor's examination revealed that the injury was not very serious.
