Twenty-five kids will for the very first time hit the Achimota Golf Academy for a special golf event on Famers Day which falls on December 4, 2015.

The kids, drawn from the Church Of Christ School in Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, will have the rare opportunity to practice on the refurbished golf facility.

The brainchild of avid golfers, Nicolo Catto and Quinton Sherlock, the initiative by ACE IT Foundation, an NGO, seeks to empower literacy among kids using sports as the main tool.

According to Sherlock, a co-founder of the NGO, it is to offer the trainees a first-hand practice on a golf course, having rehearsed on a grassless pitch at Fetteh for months.

“We consider sports as a great tool to teach discipline, self-confidence and the skills that can transform to other areas of life, hence this initiative.

“It’s been good so far. The children have embraced the concept and it’s already reflecting in their lives. Their speaking of the English language is improving as well as academics in general,” Shearlock said.

Sherlock, also the General Manager of Till’s Resort at Fetteh, is an avid golfer who on his own empowers kids in the area with education using sports.
