Jonathan Mensah claims title of highest paid Ghanaian player in MLS

The Major League Soccer (MLS) Players Union announced a list of 2017 player salaries in the American top flight on Tuesday, April 25, with Jonathan Mensah emerging as the highest earnest among Ghanaian players in the league.

Columbus Crew defender Jonathan Mensah claimed the title of the highest-paid player of Ghanaian descent in the Major League Soccer, with guaranteed salaries (including bonuses) of USD 844, 000 per year.

Fellow Ghanaian international David Accam of the Chicago Fire will take home a yearly salary of USD 820, 937 ( USD 68, 411 per month) while Harrison Afful, team mate of Jonathan Mensah at Columbus Crew will earn USD 296, 666 (USD 24, 722 per month).

Mohammed Abu and Alhassan “Lalas” Abubakar of the Columbus Crew will be paid yearly salaries of USD 171, 250 (USD 14, 270 per month) and USD 72, 500 ( USD 6, 041 per month) respectively. Former Liberty Professionals forward, Latif Blessing, will walk away with USD 74, 379 a year ( USD 6, 198 per month) in wages.

Former Right To Dream graduate, Emmanuel Boateng, of the LA Galaxy’s yearly salary stands at USD 115,000 ( USD 9, 583) while Dominic Oduro of Montreal Impact’s yearly salary is USD 330, 000 (USD 27, 500). Former Asante Kotoko and HJK Helsinki defender, Gideon Baah, will earn USD 315, 000 a year (USD 26, 291 a month).

The highest-paid player in the MLS is former Brazilian international Kaka who will earn USD 7,167,500.00 a year (USD 597, 291 per month). He currently plays for Orlando Magic.
