Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan believes the Black Stars have the capacity to reach the knockout stage of the 2017 Africa Cup Nations and eventually win the tournament.

Avram Grant's charges have been handed a tough group which also features seven-time champions Egypt, 2013 bronze medalist Mali and Uganda, who are set to make a return to the competition after a 39-year absence.

The Black Stars are chasing their first title since 1982.

“It is a tough group, I don’t think any Ghanaian will say it is an easy Group,” Gyan told Hot FM.

“But as you know, we are determined to win the trophy. For us, that is our main target.

“You know it's been a long time since the country won the Afcon title.

“We want to end that by winning the tournament in Gabon. It's not going to be easy, but I believe we can do it.”

Ghana will open their campaign against Uganda on January 17, before taking on Mali four days later.

The four-time champions then have a date with Egypt on January 25 to wrap up the group stage.

The tournament runs between January 14 and February 5 next year.
