Goldfields To Sue Kotoko Over Arhin Duah, Boakye

Kumasi Asante Kotoko is likely to play Obuasi Goldfields Sunday in a penultimate league match without two of the club’s leading strikers-Nana Arhin Duah and Isaac Boakye.

The Obuasi club has almost completed filing papers at an Accra High Court to restrain the two players from playing Sunday’s match. A credible source has hinted that management of Asante Kotoko has reneged on its part of a bargain reached after arbitration on the said players. Management of Kotoko was expected to pay 130 million cedis for Arhin Duah, but only managed half the amount, with outstanding arrears of 65 million cedis. The Kumasi club, The Independent was told is also left with 80 million cedis in arrears to pay goldfields in respect of the transfer of Isaac Boakye.

An official of Goldfields disclosed that they are being forced to take the legal action because the club’s (G’fields) supporters who perhaps are yet to come to terms with the loss of their two key players to Kotoko this year, have vowed to vent their spleen on Goldfields management, if Kotoko fails to settle the stated arrears and use the two players in Sunday’s crucial league top-liner. Information available to The Independent indicates that in spite of assurances from Kotoko management to settle the arrears after the club’s quarter-final first leg match against Mahala Club of Egypt in September, Kotoko has failed to make good its promise.

A source said the last time an official of the Obuasi club attempted to collect the money from the Kotoko management; he was virtually ignored by the Kotoko management who left him at the mercy of wild dogs at the Kotoko offices in Accra.

The two strikers have in recent times helped to increase the goal haul of Kotoko who last year played some of the best football but failed to transform their dominance of play into goals Arhin Duah who started scoring for Kotoko from the club’s pre-season matches through to the league and the Cup Winners Cup competition, has been one of the top scorers for the club this season.
