Glo gives GFA $2.1million

Glo Ghana today gave the Ghana Football Association (GFA) a cheque of over $2.1million as support for the Senior National team, the Black Stars and for the Glo Premier League.

Last year, Glo gave GFA more than $2.375million bringing the total support to the Black Stars and the Premier League so far to over $4.48million dollars.

The amount represents the $3million dollars support for the Glo Premier League, and $1.5million for the Black Stars as title sponsor.

Head of Business for Glo Ghana, John Vasikaran presented the dummy cheque to Vice President of the GFA, Fred Crenstil, and Chairman of the Professional League Board (PLB), Welbeck Abra Appiah.

The Glo Ghana Boss also presented Black Berry Handsets with unlimited airtime to the GFA and PLB bosses.

John Vasikaran congratulated the GFA, Black Stars Coach Kwasi Appiah and his technical team for the precision with which they have groomed the senior national team to its present formidable form and expressed the hope that the money would motivate the team to victory in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in South Africa.

He said Glo had been observing how the Black Stars have been waxing stronger and “we doubt if any team in Africa can prevent our team from bringing home the continental trophy this time round.”

The Glo Ghana Boss took note of the ‘goal-hungry posture’ of the team, and further urged them and their technical handlers to maintain focus and deal with each encounter as though that would be the very final game.

He was grateful to the GFA, PLB and the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) for the monumental and mature level of collaboration and commitment they have shown towards the partnership with Glo.

John Vasikran also thanked Ghanaians for their “overwhelming love and support” which has propelled Glo to “smash all records and grow out subscriber base to over two million within eight months.”

Welbeck Abra Appiah and Fred Crenstil assured Glo that the GFA and PLB would ensure that money would be applied judiciously and they would also ensure that the beneficiary teams would give Glo the millage it deserve by using the Glo paraphernalia extensively throughout the league.

They both urged the heads of the various Premier League teams to ensure that every item Glo gives to any team, in the form of jerseys, training kit, and others, are used extensively to ensure that Glo subscriber base would grow so that could continue to support football in Ghana.

Glo also runs a Reality TV Show called the Glo Soccer Academy, where at least nine Ghanaian teens are participating for a chance to win GHC60,000, plus a chance to visit Old Trafford in London and interact with Manchester United.

Glo is the sixth mobile operator and fifth GSM network in Ghana.
