Everton rival Middlesbrough for Appiah

Everton have joined Middlesbrough in the race for Juventus midfielder Stephen Appiah.

Blues boss Dave Moyes has turned to Ghana captain Appiah after being frustrated in negotiations for Inter Milan midfielder Emre.

Boro chief Keith Lamb was in Turin earlier this week for talks with Juve. The Teessiders want to take Appiah on an initial loan, but Juve would prefer a straight sale and price the midfielder at ?3 million.
