Cricket Association gives to GES

Accra, April 16, GNA - The Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) on Thursday, donated cricket equipment worth 21,000 dollars to the Ghana Education Service (GES) as part of its efforts to promote the sport at the schools level.

The donation forms part of a strategic plan drawn up by the Association to help develop and promote cricket in the country. Vanderpuije Orgle, Chairman of the GCA said the primary objective of the Association is to ensure that the necessary goals of the sport is propagated and accepted across the country, especially at the schools' levels in a bid to lay a sound foundation for the sport.

He said so far five regions made up of the Northern, Ashanti, Eastern, Central and Greater Accra Regions are expected to benefit from the package as the first phase of the outreach programme. Orgle said the Association has requested for more equipment which are expected to arrive in the country in two weeks time, adding that the remaining five regions will also have their fair share in due course. Four schools from each region are expected to benefit from the package.

Mr Bernard Annan, National Physical Education (PE) Coordinator of the GES who received the items expressed appreciation to the GCA for their efforts at encouraging the development of the sport at school level. He promised that the equipment will be put to good use to ensure that the sport becomes a popular one in the country.
