250 Million Cedi Released For Cape Coast Stadium Project

Cape Coast, (Central Region) 30 Oct.,

The Government has released 250 million cedis towards the completion of the first phase of the Cape Coast Sports Stadium. The phase, involving the construction of the popular stands and the playing field, will be completed by December this year. Mr. Enoch Tei Mensah, Minister of Youth and Sports, who led a five-member team, including the Central Regional Minister, Mr. Kojo Yankah, to inspect progress of work on the stadium at Cape Coast yesterday, said the Government is anxious to see the early completion of the project. The team's visit was also to find out how funds could be raised to complete the project, started about four years ago. Mr. Mensah asked the Contractors - Eddie Construction Company and Lar-Tan Limited - to increase their labour force and work day and night to meet the next December deadline. Mr. Yankah, who is also the acting Municipal Chief Executive, said the Assembly would provide financial support for the project. Nana Brew Butler, the out-going GFA chairman and a director of the Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs said the Club would contribute 30 million cedis.

The Contractors gave the assurance that efforts would be made to complete it by December this year. Earlier Mr. Mukhtar Tahir of the Architectural Engineering Services Company (AESC), Consultants for the project said 151 point two million cedis would be needed to complete the first phase, adding that so far 272 million cedis has been spent on it. The second phase involves the construction of the V.I.P. stand and the drainage system. Mr. Tahir said the whole project would cost one point two billion cedis. The other members of the delegation were Alhaji M.N.D. Jawula, newly-elected GFA chairman and his vice-chairman Mr. Ade Coker.
