Govt to come out with a comprehensive policy ...

....to accelerate the country's middle income status

The vice president Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur has announced that government would soon come out with a comprehensive policy to accelerate the country's middle income status.

.So that the country's economy would be over less reliant on aids and grants so would go in for more direct investment for the country as it gets there.

Adding that with stable democracy Ghana’s economic challenges would see the path of progress so that the economy would continue to grow from strength to strength.

He made the statement when the new Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana Trudy Kernighan called on him at the Flagstaff house to deliberate on bilateral issues and lauded the efforts of Canada in the country especially the role that CIDA plays in the rural communities in terms of economic development and hopes that Ghana and Canada would continue to strengthen their relationship sayingGhana and Canada have been enjoying a cordial relation since 1957.with their assistance to Ghana long before independence and is exemplary.

He said Canadian International Development Agency's (CIDA) bilateral projects are primarily focused on the three northern regions: Northern, have yielded positive results and hopes to see more. . On her part TRUDY Kernighan the high commissioner to Ghana lauded Ghana for its democratic credentials across the globe and that their agencies like Canadian International Development Agency's overall goal is to support Ghana's efforts to achieve equitable and sustainable poverty reduction, infrastructure development and economic partnership. She said they were also there to inform the vice President that The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, will lead a trade mission to Ghana together with Representatives from 28 Canadian companies and organizations, predominantly from the extractive and infrastructure sectors, will participate in the trade mission.

So would look forward for him to meet with the Vice President and share ideas look forward for them to share ideas in that sector because Ghana and Canada has had a lot of assistance in many areas. .Adding that Canada's International Policy Sees Ghana as a development partners in which CIDA is currently concentrating the bulk of its country to country assistance especially the water and sanitation and food security in the north and thermal energy .

And that that Canada would keep investing in the Ghanaian economy and would look at any other sector to develop when necessary. However, she was optimistic that the good relation enjoyed by the two countries would continue.

She also observed that Canadian assistance to Ghana is delivered through CIDA and that currently, Canada provides programmes aid through Multi Donor Budgetary Support (MDBS), Food and Agriculture Budgetary Support (FABS), the District Wide Assistance Project (DWAP), the Community-driven Initiative for Food Security (CIFS) and Ghana Environment Management Programme (GEMP) and others.
