Ghana coach rues dropped points

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah admitted to being disappointed after he watched his side draw 2-2 against DR Congo at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Stars allowed their opponents to come from two-nil down on Sunday.

The result of the opening Group B match left either side with a point in a tough group where Mali are tops after winning 1-0 over Niger in the other match.

Goals from Emmanuel Agyemang Badu and Kwadwo Asamoah gave the Black Stars a great start to the campaign but the Leopards salvaged a point through strikes from Tresor Mputu and Dieudonne Mbokani's spot kick.

“Automatically, when you go into a first game, you expect to get a win. Unfortunately, we could not get it today [against the Congolese]. I believe they are a very good side and it wasn’t going to be easy to walk over them,” Appiah said after the game.

“I believe there were some small tactical indiscipline which we will try to tackle.”

Appiah explained that Ghana had enough opportunities to pick all three points but felt his certain aspects of their defending let them down.

“We were trying to create more opportunities, and scoring opportunities which in actual fact, we did,” he said.

“But under normal circumstances, whiles attacking, you are suppose to defend very well. There are some bits and pieces we need to put together in our next game.”

Despite the regret, Appiah says the opposition coached by Claude Le Roy are a good side.

“I have always said that countries that have qualified to the Cup of Nations are all really good sides, there is no way you can underrate any of them. I have watched their game and it was not going to be easy.”
