If even Mahama benefited from free SHS, why not poor families - Nana

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has reproached President John Mahama for what he says is his double standards on the party’s free Senior High School promise.

Nana Akufo-Addo was speaking at a rally held at the Golden Jubilee Park in Takoradi to climax the end of his campaign tour of the Western Region.

He said President Mahama wrote in his book “My First Coup D’etat” that after attending the relatively expensive Achimota primary school, he was sent to the Tamale Secondary School where he benefitted from the free SHS implemented by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for the people in the north.

According to Nana Akufo-Addo, President Mahama’s father who served as a minister in the Nkrumah administration could have afforded the fees of President Mahama but chose to benefit from the free education.

He therefore chided the president for not seeing the good in helping under privileged families in the country.

Nana Addo said the NDC’s position on education smacks of double standards and should not be taken seriously.

He said poor people also deserve a chance at free quality education and the NPP under his leadership will ensure that education is made available to all.

Meanwhile, Nana Akufo-Addo has ended his campaign tour of the Western Region.

He is heading for the Central Region where he will interact with the residents about his free SHS promise.
