PNC to hold parliamentary primaries in March

The People’s National Convention (PNC) said plans are afoot to hold its nationwide parliamentary primaries in March this year.

Interested card bearing party members are therefore invited to file their nomination papers.

“We have suggested that by the close of March, all incumbent and “orphan” constituency primaries should have been completed,” the PNC national chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan told the press on Wednesday.

“It is the leadership’s and indeed the whole party’s priority to increase our representation in Parliament after this year’s elections. ”

He added, “We believe it’s time the huge pool of goodwill the party enjoys as the most credible, peaceful and ideas-driven political party is exploited to position us to affect public policy and decision making at the highest level. ”

He said the party intended beefing its organizational efforts at every level to wrestle power from the NDC in December.

“The structures of the party at the constituency levels will be resurrected and strengthened to the best point possible; this will help us devolve the campaign to the lower levels where our target groups are mostly based i. e. the least, the last, the lost and the marginalized in society with extreme ease and efficiency. ”

Still related to the subject of party organization, the party will according to him introduce what shall be known and called the PNC Cadre Corps.

This will comprise groups of young party men and women in every constituency who will be trained in explaining the simplified version of the PNC manifesto to the Ghanaian electorate in their localities on a house-to house basis.

“In short, the cadre corps will be the campaign and education Ambassadors of the party,” he explained.

Alhaji Ramadan said another important agenda that will be pursued with immediacy is the appointment of other national officers and the composition of various organs and committees of the party for efficient and effective administration.

“These Officers will include inter alia; two Deputy General Secretaries, three Vice Chairmen, Deputy Youth, Women and National Organizers, Deputy Treasurer as well as the National Education and Deputy Secretaries. The National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Steering Committee, the Council of Elders, the Political, Disciplinary, Legal, Finance and Publicity Committees will also be constituted as quickly as possible. ”

The party’s newly elected flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga was officially outdoored at the news conference.
