Court cautions father for beating daughter

Kumasi, Nov. 26, GNA - A father, who filed a writ against the teacher of his 11-year-old daughter at a Kumasi circuit court for sexually abusing her turned accused. This followed the testimony in court by the daughter that her father, whose name was withheld, flogged her mercilessly to extract the information of the sexual abuse from her after persuasion failed, while she was sick.

The girl told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that she fell sick a week after the sexual abuse by her teacher. Her father tried to find out what was wrong with her.

She said she did not tell her father and when he realized that he could not persuade her, he lost his temper and flogged her until she had bruises all over her body.

The court, however, cautioned and discharged him after the prosecution pleaded for him but he spent two days in police custody before being discharged.

The court also warned him not to touch the girl again or any of her siblings and that failure to comply with the order would land him in serious trouble with the court.
