Condom use remains unpopular among youth

Figures released by the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana show that about 80 per cent of females and 65 per cent of males aged between 15 ad 24 years in Ghana do not use condoms.

Adolescent Reproductive health experts sat the trend exposes the country?s potential human resources to HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections.

Though the Ghana AIDS commission acknowledges the positive achievements in the fight against the dreaded HIV/AIDS, it also warns that it is suicidal for the country to be complacent.

It is therefore pushing for people who cannot abstain from sexual activities to turn to the use of condoms.

Officials of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana are backing this call, saying the lack of knowledge about contraceptives leaves young people at great risk.

An official of PPAG, Emmanuel Obeng is thus urging governmental agencies to intensify sex education programmes targeted at young people.
