Ghanaians urged to submit proposals on the Domestic Violence Bill

Kumasi, July 30, GNA - Ghanaians have been asked not only to express interest in the Domestic Violence Bill but to submit more memoranda and comments on it to the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs for study and incorporation into the final bill.

This will enable the Ministry to collate proposals from across the country to enable it to present a comprehensive and acceptable bill to Parliament towards addressing the rampant cases of domestic violence. This was contained in an address read for Mrs Gladys Asmah, the Sector Minister, at the opening of a three-day 102nd annual delegates conference of the Order of Hope Society in Kumasi on Friday.

The conference, which was under the theme: "A Charge I Have" was being attended by 150 delegates from the 50 branches of the Association throughout the country.

Mrs Asmah urged religious groups and other organisations to assist in addressing social problems that affected the people.

Nana Opoku Agyemang Bawuah Nsafo II, Ayeduasehene, commended the Government for introducing the National Health Insurance Scheme to improve health delivery in the country, and urged Churches and other religious bodies to educate their members on the importance of the scheme.

Nana Nsafo called on religious bodies to join the crusade against indiscipline.

Mr John Ofori Jnr, National President of the Society, called on members to work hard for the realisation of the objectives of Association.

Archdeacon Dawson Amoah of the Anglican Church, urged Churches to educate parents on need to fulfil their responsibilities towards their children as way of solving the problem of street children.
