I am not in a rush for a national team call up - Mahatma Otoo

Former Hearts of Oak striker Mahatma Otoo has revealed to Ultimate FM Sports that he is in no rush to force a return to the Black Stars – owing to the fact that he needs to work his way into the team.

Otoo, who played for Hearts of Oak before leaving for Norwegian side Songdal, scored 25 goals in 83 appearances and subsequently left for Turkish side Umraniyespor on a six month deal.

The 25-year-old was a member of Avram Grant’s 2015 squad that won silver at the tourney in Equatorial Guinea. He is yet to earn a call up after the return of Kwesi Appiah as coach of the team. However, he says he is bidding his time for a return into the team.

“I will do my best as a player and the wish of every Ghanaian player is to join the national team. I just have to concentrate because once I bang in the goals the door will open for me to join the national team,” Otoo said.

“The coach [Kwesi Appiah] is giving everybody the chance to play. He is looking at people who are getting more playing and performing for their respective clubs as well.

“I just have to push myself to score more goals. I can play like Maradona, if I don’t score goals I [might] not get into the national team.”

Otoo made 15 appearances for Umranisyespor, started 14 of them and scored a single goal.
