Be nice to the people you meet when you are climbing up. They will the same people you will meet on your way down. Ghanaians are simply replaying the drama that greeted Kufour's attempt to occupy an office in Cantonments. You see that we have a very long memory after all. What ever agreements were reached were wrong and mutually illegal and unenforceable. Same as the late PV Obeng's agreement with ex-President Kufour that President Mills rescinded. The parties to that unwritten agreement should have known the tolerance level better, especially for a President they kicked out of office after one term. We will never let any Ex-president take away his official residence. If we do so in 100 years our sitting Presidents will be outside Accra whilst ex-president live within the cities plush environs

"I do recognise that these are facilities that are conventionally extended to presidents that leave office and I am also mindful of the approval by the parliament of the republic of Ghana on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at its 22nd sitting of the third meeting of the 4th session".
John Mahama Ex Prez.
We do take notice of this erroneous impression that has been created and being employed as a ruse by by far, Ghana's most reckless and irresponsible President in his unholy quest and agenda to steal a state property with crass impunity.
According to the Constitution, there is established an Emoluments Committee, which recommends for Parliament to prescribe the salary, allowances and facilities that maybe extended to the President on leaving office.
In this specific instance, the Buandoh Emoluments Committee as per their report and as a body operating on the strength of the Constitution, did not recommend for John Mahama to retain, keep, have, stay in the state property at Cantonments. It is therefore interesting where Mahama is getting the idea of Parliament having approved the Cantonments residence for him from, unless it is a mischievous and irresponsible attempt to loot the state asset working in cahoots with some equally degenerate elements in the legislature to effect same.
It is true that there have been other Emoluments Committees in the past that have recommended to be prescribed by parliament, the salary, allowances and facilities that outgone Presidents should enjoy on retirement.
However, in this case the Emoluments Committee did not recommend to be prescribe amongst the allowances and facilities , Ghana's state property at Cantonments.
John Mahama can therefore not be operating on the assumption that, some convention has been established for him to be keeping state property and assets at his own whims and caprices.
Secondly, the Transition Act is very clear, unambiguous about the obligation imposed on John Mahama with regards to his continued tenancy or otherwise at the said residence. Suffice to say, Mahama is in flagrant breach of this obligation and could only mean his avowed stance on looting the state asset for his personal gain, which must never ever be allowed to stand in this country.
Thirdly, we have witnessed a situation in this country where an outgoing gov't official put in a REQUEST to buy a state bungalow which he occupied, emphasis on buy, not steal or appropriate by some so-called non-definable convention, of which he was subjected to all manner of humiliation, when laws existed he could buy the said bungalow just as state vehicles. Two Ministers in his gov't took the matter to court and of the two, one was rather strangely, heard these past few days supporting the outright stealing of the state property, not buy, not purchase, but outright stealing of the state asset.
It is instructive to note, John Mahama issued a statement about officials buying state bungalows. And i think it is appropriate that at this material moment, he takes the needed diligent steps to refresh his memory concerning that particular matter.
Fourthly, it does seem Mahama is trying to make the point that, the transition of power when he lost the elections was predicated on some purported agreement to keep the state property and by extension, if perhaps, he knew this is how it would have turned out in his irresponsible, immoral and indecent attempt to steal the state property, then the transfer of power might have gone awry.
It is our honest belief that is not the point he was trying to make, and with that said, we would leave it at that.
In conclusion, parliament did not approve any stealing of any state asset by John Mahama. The Emoluments Comm. a product of the Constitution did not recommend to be prescribed by parliament the retention of the state property at Cantonments as part or among the facilities to be extended to John Mahama. The Transition act spelt out explicitly what John Mahama needed to do in the event he lost the elections, which rather interestingly, his Vice President seems to have done.
The point must be made very strongly that, the reckless and irresponsible attempt by Mahama to steal and loot the state property is a portrayal of the worst instincts of leadership at it's most egregious and apoplectic best. It is outrageous, an absolute outrage and an indignation which must never be countenanced in this country.
Such reprobate thinking must be condemned even after Mahama packs out of the state property he actively connived with some elements to steal in this country. He must be shamed to serve as a deterrent to other would-be leaders with that kind of depraved mindset in this country.
The opportunity to serve is not the avenue and the platform for the stealing and looting of state assets for personal gain and aggrandizement.
It must be rejected strongly and outrightly in our body polity if Ghana is ever to progress.

This one wise decision John mahama made is best for him and the generation yet unborn, no president should ever be allow to the continue use of his official bungalow, if we can't spare the state the cost of building them houses then they should wait for it elsewhere and not buying state lands and properties that re meant for future use.Whats a property to let's say an old man like kufour on earth or its for his children?...This should and must be scrap immediately, our stupid culture of calling people useless because they couldn't build a house in their live time, is what's pushing public officials to steal our money.Do you recall Hassan Ayariga called Nana Addo useless because he was still staying in his father's house? If the man does not need another house why should this illiterate fool call him names? Now he's president and when can Hassan Ayariga become president of Ghana?maybe when he stop building houses and swimming pools and save or go back to school because with this illiteracy and loose talks I don't think he can ever be a parliamentary let alone president. Why should the president copy the Asantehene on this matter? Otumfor should stop meddling in issues like this, otherwise one day it ll bring him big shame, any crime commited by government officials and want to escape prosecution turns to Asantehene why? Does he also benefit behind the scenes? We ve laws and politician re aware of it before taking office so if they break it, let them face the law, if Asantehene does not stop, one day I ll take him to court.

2. Mahama lives in what is a former COCOBOD guest house. He moved in when he was Vice President.
3. When he became President he decided not to move and to stay in the same property. Note that he could have asked for a bigger property and tax payers would have paid more but he stayed put.
4. Amissah his vice moved into Australia House.
5. During the transition Mahama asked for 2 things. Instead of paying him 9000 Ghana cedis he would live in the same house and Mahama also requested an office which he is entitled to based on benefits to former Presidents. Both JJ and Kufuor have the same benefits.
6. By law, whether tax payers like it or not Mahama will now have to be given 9000 cedis a month and another office found for him.
So now tell me, instead of not paying rent to someone and staying in Government owned property, some of you prefer he moves to say Trassacco at the tax payers expense. How smart are you? As for the office he gets it anyway. Whether the one he requested was given to him or not doesnt matter. Tax payers still have to pay for another office which probably will be more expensive. The office he asked for will not cost any more money.
So instead of saving the country money, you would rather the country spends money on Mahama. Very smart of some of you. SMH.
