Christians must reject corruption - Akrofi

Accra, Dec. 25 The Right Reverend Justice O. Akrofi, Anglican Bishop of Accra, today urged Christians to fight corruption and bribery in all spheres of life because they are destroying the nation's sense of social service. "If Christ were living in Ghana today, His sermon on the Mount would certainly include a criticism against bribery and corruption. These twin evils are destroying the roots of our society which include love and unity. "People in position no longer render a service for the love of it. They do it only when induced with gift. Let us condemn this practice from the pulpit and, as Christians, show our rejection of it in our relations". In a Christmas message in church today, Rev. Akrofi said Christians must refuse to bribe or be bribed, corrupt others or allow themselves to be corrupted. They should also show compassion to the destitute, victims of natural disasters and war, the sick and the aged during the Yuletide. "Let us be reminded that if Christ were alive today, He would show the destitute children and street youths the same compassion He showed to the thousands who followed Him. Christ's compassion was practical. He fed them, healed them and brought them hope of eternal life". Rev Akrofi called for prayers for the nation, the prevention of catastrophes and for peace in the world.
