HE GETS SIX MONTHS FOR DOUBLE REGISTRATION

A Tema circuit tribunal presided over by Major Jacob Abobor (rtd) today sentenced Ibrahim Fuseini, a labourer, to six months' imprisonment in hard labour for double registration during the just ended voters registration exercise. He changed his plea of not guilty to guilty on the advice of his counsel. The tribunal had earlier rejected the contention of Fuseini's counsel, Mr Charles Tufuour, that the accused was illiterate and therefore did not know the intricacies of the crime. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Alice Gyimah told the tribunal that on October 14, Fuseini went to a registration centre at Ashaiman to register. After filling the form and the registration officer was about to apply the indelible ink, it was detected that Fuseini had a mark on his finger nail which he had attempted to erase. He was therefore handed over to the police and after interrogation he confessed having registered earlier on.
