Onsy Nkrumah optimistic about Africa’s growth

Observing the African Union Day, Dr Onsy Anwar Nathan Kwame Nkrumah, a Pan Africanist and the son of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in an exclusive interview with The Republic newspaper yesterday, expressed optimism about the future of the African continent and lauded the African Union for making significant progress in maintaining peace on the African continent.

He further stated that the African continent has what it takes to surmount all the economic barriers hindering its economic redemption, “if only it will pull together in unity,” other than that , he added, “the continent will always be looking elsewhere for development assistance.”

In his view, “Africa will be an extremely formidable economic bloc and a global powerhouse if member countries forge and work towards a common development goal and agenda.”

Dr Nkrumah, who is also the Chairman of United African Organisation (UAO), a Pan-Africanist movement, said he believes in Africa and its leaders to make developmental, economic, political and humanitarian strides to salvage Africa from the myriads of problems hindering its economic breakthrough.

Dr Nkrumah said Africa had a great potential that could only be realised by Africans and no other country or institution.

He said that the greatest challenge facing the continent was that, “we just have a vision, resources and the people working at different points and not working in sync with one another or on the same page.”

He postulated that good intentions were not enough if “visionary leadership, resources and the people are not working together as a unified team”.
