Prof. Mills was a good man but a bad leader – Sammy Awuku

As one of the first men to wage the integrity campaign against the government of the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Samuel Awuku has done a critical appraisal of President John Dramani Mahama’s performances so far, and concludes that he should have let the good old Professor off the hook.

According to Samuel Awuku in an interview with the Weekend Sun, the late "Prof. Mills was a good man, but I think that as a leader he was a weak leader. He was a good man in private life and in person, but in the political life, maybe because of the harsh conditions of the political terrain, he couldn’t really navigate well.

In person and in private life, I have been told by people who know him that he was a good man. But in politics you need to go beyond just being a good man. You need to have the balls, the courage."

"Yes, you need to be not just rough but take decisions that sometimes may be bitter but necessary...The only thing I will regret is that, compared to President Mahama, the Prof. was better,”

He revealed that, his attacks on the late president was because there was crass corruption in his government which was not being dealt with decisively.

"Yes, under his watch! Former President Rawlings, almost on a daily basis, echoed that. He used the word ‘crass’ corruption regularly. He usually described it as ‘unbridled corruption never seen in the history of our country.’ Besides, there were widespread issues of unemployment, hopelessness and joblessness."
