'Pay your rates promptly for good progress'

The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr Kwaku Owusu Acheampong, has asked traders and other rate payers to promptly pay their rates to enable the Assembly to generate funds for developments projects.

He addressing a town hall meeting organized by the Social Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (SPEFA) forum in collaboration with the New Juaben Municipal Assembly (NJMA), at Koforidua.

Dr Acheampong said the expected Internally Generated Fund (IGF) for the year 2014 was GHC¢3,086,279.00 but due to the non-payment of rates by many residents in the Municipality, the Assembly was able to generate only GH¢ 2,754,380.54 to undertake development projects.

He said there was the need for citizens and the Assembly to meet and interact from time to time for the people to know what their taxes and revenues were used for.

He explained that the IGF raised by the Assembly and funds from Central Government were what the Assembly relied on to undertake development projects in the Municipality.

Dr Acheampong said the Assembly spends GH¢ 140,000.00 every quarter on sanitation and GH¢ 60,000.00 yearly to protect the people in the Municipality against diseases.

During the meeting, some projects undertaken by the Assembly over the last two years were screened in a presentation for the people to appreciate the work of the Assembly.
