Gov’t connived with Woyome to dupe the State – NPP

The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is accusing government of conniving with businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome to defraud the state as far as the controversial Ghc51million judgment debt that was paid him in 2010 is concerned.

Addressing the media Tuesday on the acquittal and discharge of Mr Woyome by an Accra High Court on the criminal charges leveled him, Communications Director of the Party Nana Akomea accused State prosecutors of deliberately putting up a weak defence that led to the state’s defeat in the matter.

The party is therefore charging the President and the Attorney General to prosecute all state officials who have been mentioned in connection with the case.

An Accra High Court on Thursday acquitted and discharged Mr Woyome of charges of causing financial loss to the state and defrauding by false pretences.

Trial judge John Ajet-Nassam said the State could not convince him that the alleged financier of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) caused financial loss to the state and also defrauded the Government.

The Attorney General has, however, initiated steps to appeal against the judgment.
