John Boye revels in redemption goal

He might have been a pariah after an image of him kissing a wad of dollar bills became the lasting image of Ghana's shameful World Cup exit but John Boye could well be on his way to redemption after his goal put Ghana on the path to a crucial 2-1 win over South Africa in Mongomo.

After starting the game on the bench, Boye got his chance when an injury to rising star Daniel Amartey presented him with an opportunity and he grabbed gleefully.

"I came from the bench to score is what happened. You all saw it. I am just happy to have scored because we were in a difficult situation and the chance presented itself. It is also nice for Andre to have scored the winner; that’s the most important thing for us. We just thank God for the win," he said.

"Last time I scored a goal was in 2013 at the AFCON so it is nothing new. I am glad to have been able to contribute."

Ghana now travels to Malabo to await the runner up from a very close group D that has Mali, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire and Cameroon all on two points.
