ECG staff demonstrate

Staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have laid down their tools and embarked on a demonstration in protest against the reassignment of Managing Director Reverend William Hutton-Mensah.

Engineer Hutton-Mensah, who is on his annual leave, has been asked to report to the Minister of Energy and Petroleum for reassignment upon resumption while his position is filled by Robert Dwamena, the Director of Procurements.

But President Mahama’s decision seems to have ruffled feathers at the Accra East Branch of the Company.

Staff there want a reinstatement of their boss.

Some of the placards wielded read: "Gov't, Sack Minister Rather", "Oh, Mr President, Why ECG boss and not GRIDCO or VRA boss", "We want our MD back" and "Dumsor, dumsor is not ECG's problem".

Other branches have also served notice of similar actions.
