GMA sets up Ebola Fund

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has set up a special fund to aid the fight against the deadly Ebola virus.

A start-up amount of GH¢20,000 has been dedicated for the fund.

This was disclosed by the National President of the Association, Dr Kwabena Opoku Edusei, at a TV3 Network-organised forum, The Platform, which is discussing Ghana's preparedness for the disease on the theme: "Spot, Stop and Cure Ebola".

It is being held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

The Association has agitated for special insurance for members who are at the forefront in the fight against the disease breaking out in Ghana.

It has also expressed dissatisfaction with government's commitment with the fight against the disease.

But according to Dr Opoku Edusei, the fund is health workers' own initiative that would cater for expenses including meeting the medical costs of Ebola patients in Ghana.

Though the disease is yet to be recorded in Ghana, 120 suspected cases have been tested, all negative.
