Augsburg to report GFA to FIFA over Baba Rahman

Pissed German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg say they may be forced to report the Ghana FA to FIFA over defender Abdul Baba Rahman who they claim returns late to the club whenever he is released for international duty.

The left-back who has cemented a starting berth in the side since his summer move has been partly blamed for Augsburg’s 1-2 away defeat to Mainz 05 on October 18 as he missed the starting eleven for arriving from national team duty 38 hours after featuring for the Black Stars in the 3-1 win over Guinea in Tamale.

“It is extremely annoying for us. [It is] the [Ghana Football] Association duty to ensure that players return back to their clubs on time,” Augsburg’s 48-year-old General Manager Stefan Reuter said.

Stefan Reuter added they are considering asking FIFA to put pressure on the GFA and other Associations to have their players return on time.

“Now, we have to look at what to do – to ask FIFA to help by putting pressure on Football Associations in a reminder to ensure that players quickly return to their clubs [after international breaks], the Augsburg Chief said.

Augsburg hold a strong belief that the Mainz defeat could have been avoided if Baba had arrived earlier and started the game. His performance after coming on as a 56th minute substitute was rated equal to the best player of the game.

The former Dreams FC graduate last month enjoyed his full international debut in an AFCON 2015 Qualifier away to Togo and has since featured in three consecutive games for the Black Stars and provided two assists.
