Homosexuality and the law contradicts

The supposed sexual abuse of a 16 year old student described as a minor by a Gynaecologist as reported in the media, has once again brought the issue of homosexuality into the limelight of public discussions gathering hot effusions from discussants.

Whereas the legal luminaries consider homosexuality as a criminality, Psychologist see it as a sex preference even though it could have an abnormality component which can be addressed.

A Clinical Psychologist, Dr Annie Gazie doubts the assertion that, homosexuality is genetic among some people even though some research has said so.

Parental control and environment in which one grows could have played vital role in the sexual preference of homosexuals.

Dr Gazie explains that, peoples’ sexual preference are altered by the trauma, domestic abuse and other difficulties they go through during their formative ages, and should not be misconstrued as an abnormality.

Dr Gazie was speaking on the FRONTLINE: the Morning Show of the Rainbow Radio 87.5.

She noted parental and other happening around the child could have a lasting impact on the child even in their older age. These childhood experience may manifest itself in many forms including homosexuality and this cannot be considered as abnormality but rather, a psychological state which could be addressed.

She was quick to add that, a sexual violation by an adult over a minor creates a confrontation with the law.

She however raised concerns about the testimony of the abused student in the question adding that, there are loop holes which should be delved into so as to have a holistic approach to homosexuality in the country.

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw on the other hand describe gayism as an abnormality and a criminal offence which should be dealt by the law.

He contends that the law criminalized homosexuality under the ‘carnal knowledge’ provision of the law.

On lesbianism, Lawyer Ampaw noted a soft stand by the law, adding that, there is no ‘carnal knowledge ‘component when it comes to lesbianism but that does not exonerate lesbianism from the range of abnormal behaviors.
