Thirty-three suspected criminals arrested at Madina

The Madina Divisional Police Command has arrested 33 suspected criminals, comprising 28 males and eight females in a dawn swoop.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Nantogmah Aggrey Yakubu, said between 0100 hours and 0400 hours on Monday, the Police arrested five criminals, and 28 more on Tuesday within the Madina Municipality.

He said the suspects, whose hide-outs were the Madina Central Market, Jamaica and the Nkulenu areas, include car snatchers, prostitutes, gamblers and drinking bar operators, who worked after 2200 hours attracting the criminals to the area.

He warned drinking bar operators within his Municipality to close promptly after 2200 hours to create a conducive atmosphere for people to sleep.

A lot of alcoholic drinks were seized, in addition to a gambling table that normally attracted the criminals to the drinking bars.

The Divisional Commander urged the public to report at the police station to identify some of the criminals who may have attacked them or robbed them of their belongings.

He said after investigations and screening by Friday, the suspected criminals would be prosecuted.

He reminded criminals that they could run away, but could not hide, and for that matter the Police would deal with them ruthlessly whenever they were arrested.

Chief Superintendent Yakubu also warned land guards within his jurisdiction who disturbed estate developers that they would not be spared when arrested.
