Trader remanded on robbery charge

An Accra Circuit Court on Monday remanded, one Nana Agyemang Opoku, a trader, on the charge of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

Nana Agyemang was said to have conspired with one Frank now deceased and robbed one Joseph Annor of his HP laptop worth GH¢ 2,700.00, Targa laptop worth $720.00, Acer laptop worth $950.00, Samsung galaxy Note 3 worth $820.00, and one Apple Ipad worth $840.00.

They also robbed one Sony Espiria phone worth $450.00, Iphone worth $820.00, Samsung Galaxy Note phone worth GH¢ 240.00, one China Iphone worth GH¢ 300.00, two wedding rings worth GH¢ 2,700.00, assorted jewelleries worth GH¢ 2,000.00 and an amount of $2,100 and GH¢ 4, 500.00 all totalling GH¢ 12,440.00 and $6,530.00.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges but was however remanded by the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri to reappear on September 16.

Prosecuting Chief Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuaruka told the court that the complainant Joseph is an IT Technician who lives together with his family at Sarpeiman near Amasaman.

He said for some time now, armed robbers have been terrorizing residents of Amasaman and on September 10, at about 0200 hours, Nana Agyemeng and his accomplice armed with their two foreign pistols and other offensive implements went into the complainants house and robbed him.

He said the complainant heard the barking of his dogs and did not come out, but the accused persons waiting till 0600 hours when the complainant and his family came out from their apartment.

The prosecution said the accused persons pointed their guns at him and marched him back into his room, tied him up and subjected his family to severe beatings.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said they ransacked his room and robbed him of the above-mentioned items and monies.

He told the court that the complainant on his way to the Amasaman police station spotted the accused persons walking on the street of Sarpeiman and he raised an alarm, and they took to their heel amidst firing.

He said some residents of the vicinity assisted the complainant to arrest them together with the booty and subsequently handed them over to the police.

The prosecution said the two accused persons sustained injuries at the time of their arrest by the mob, but Frank died later at the Amasaman Government Hospital.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said items retrieved from the accused person during their arrest were three laptops, one Apple Ipad, five mobile phones, two wedding rings, assorted jewelleries and an amount of $ 2,100 and GH¢ 1,034.00.
