We need to change selection policy of Black Stars - Ex Ghana Sports Minister E.T Mensah

Former Sports Minister Enoch T. Mensah says the mode of selection of players into the Black Stars needs to be reviewed following the team’s disastrous campaign at the 2014 World Cup.

The Black Stars slumped to a first round exit from the tournament staged in Brazil having failed to win a single game from Group G.

This is Ghana’s worst ever performance since making its debut at the finals in 2006 in Germany.

A Presidential Commission has been set up to investigate the fallouts from the disastrous campaign with incidence of player agitation over delayed payment of appearance fees and indiscipline.

But ex Sports Minister E.T Mensah believes an amendment to the policy of player selection into the team – focusing on finding talents within – must be implemented to see the side return to the top of its game.

“You cannot come from outside and come and play, you need to come and justify your inclusion,” he told Radio Gold.

“We shouldn’t wait until the last minute to get players.

“We need to go round and get the players who are here.

“If you go all around you will see the talents.

“[Stephen] Appiah for instance was doing so well at the colts level and I had to go watch him and then handed him over to the coaches.”
