We agree with you Akomea although it seems your party has either been bribed into compliance or due to Afoko's tribal affiliations with Mahama dares not speak the truth, since Sir John left your biting criticisms are no more . in fact the opposition is now being lead by non partisan individuals who are tired of this country with no justice and corruption everywhere. your flag-bearer thinks its cool to be chummy or endear himself with criminals like PV in the hope that maybe perhaps one day the mafia and national security controlled by NDC can rig elections in his favor or whatever sick perverted conspiracy against the interests of the people they can come up with. You fail to see the significance of this last reshuffle especially with the appointment of MP Quansah as regional minister . The man is known to be a very likeable hardworking standup guy who most predict is the next presidential candidate is on a mission to reverse their fortunes since the marginalization and the consequent the shunning of the Fantis as they no longer massively support the NDC. Debrah also has the reputation of being a hard worker as such will beef up their fortunes in the eastern region. Yes you NPP riding on the discontent of the majority of the people especially the Akans have become lazy and are no more in the battle front-lines with us . They have slipped in a property tax that will eventual enable them to foreclose on the last bits of wealth remaining with the Akans . The significance of this reshuffle and the message we firmly received is that the corrupt northerners are untouchable and even if the perform abysmally or destructively they will continue to have the support of Mahama . The situation after this reshuffle is that things have now moved from very bad to the worst possible scenario of a free for all to chop as much as they like . Then end result is that the people continue to suffer and be denied their proper standard .

None of the current parties can fix the ongoing economic challenges. The economic challenges in Ghana didn't start today and can be traced from the late 70's.
No country in this world can survive when her balance of trade is negative year after year.
Since the late 70's Ghana has been built on western bail out and leaders have never had the vision of building and recovering from past mistakes; rather they are filled with the selfish and individual-centred syndrome.
When PNDC was in power it collapsed the industrial base of Ghana by selling or privatising most of the public industries like GHIOC. There is nothing wrong with privatisation but when it only meets the selfish and corrupt desire of politicians then it kills the purpose of it. Just imagine that most of the companies were sold to themselves, friends and families. A country sells assets to raise money to pay off some of its debt, but in the case of Ghana it is to enrich their personal pockets (what a joke).
NPP came and did not change the trend but continue by selling national assets like Ghana Telecom very cheap to their cronies. I believe 30% of the capital that was raised from the sale of Ghana Telecom are in private pockets. It didn't end there. The oil industry has also become a victim when the nation's share is in the pockets of so called politicians.
Now tell me who can then save Ghana is it NPP, NDC, PPP, CPP and all other Pss?
Until the mindset of every Ghanaian is changed we shall remain in the pit. Until the Ghanaian is looking beyond his belly and thinking of his/her sacrifice to enable her children and grandchildren to enjoy we shall remain in the pit. Britain, USA, Japan, Germany etc. were built on the sacrifice their forefathers made and that is why this generation is enjoying.

Everything that they have recommended to us for the past 50 odd years has failed us. They then turn around and blame the various govts. Cant Ghanaians see that they are leading us around by the nose?

If it wasnt because we are basically a lazy people who dont want to find their own solutions to their own problems and work hard at it, we would not for one second be listening to them and bothering ourselves with their unfounded and misdirected observations.

They have money to sell to us and we also have problem to sell to them. It is in their interest to highlight our problems to be able to get value for their money(High interest rates. It is also up to us to also down play the impact of their money on our economy to get favorable price (interest)from them. IMF has never sold any economy in good form as long as you don't take their money.When Kufour wined Ghana off from IMF support, did you read the IMF report after the exist of NPP?. Go and read it and you would be left in no doubt that IMF is a self seeking institution.

The fact remains that Ghana cannot rely on oil production and growth/profits from banks and mobile companies to claim the economy is growing. Without regular supply of energy (power) the economy cannot grow. Most producers and service providers cannot carry on their activities due to lack of power. They have to either shut down and lay off workers or produce at very low capacity. With that revenue from corporate taxes will reduce drastically. Unemployment will go up and PAYE will also reduce. Exports will be low and imports high. With such scenario in Ghana, the future is very bleak unless the power problem is resolved as a matter of urgency. I have not even mentioned government borrowing and the huge public sector wage bill as well as corruption such as Subah, GYEEDA, SADA and dubious judgement debts payments. Do not pretend to be an ostrich.

The trouble we have in this country is that we tend to believe any nonsense that is put out to derail our efforts to achieve real economic self- sufficiency.
Believe me and you,there are several senior decision-makers who have not come around to recognizing 'the games' the IMF has been playing with us. And then of course,we have the sort of leadership that is not really firm in what it wants to achieve,and is often all over the map,pursuing conflicting policies which do not make sense!

This is what happens when a nation is ruled for a long time by military regimes and governments which come and put in place populist policies which the economy cannot sustain.Since February,1966 the nation has been ruled by incompetent,useless governments which woefully failed to realize that the nations economic salvation lies in the radical diversification of the economy through industrialization. We are still relying on the exportation of raw materials which makes the economy very vulnerable when their prices tumble on the world market. Which country has ever developed a strong economy with reliance on the exportation of raw materials? Ghanaians must put the blame on the governments[NPP and NDC included] which have ruled the nation since February,1966; they have incompetently run the economy of the nation. They should have taken the bold decision of diversifying the economy through industrialization. The nation's economy keeps deteriorating because of its over-reliability on the exportation of raw materials.

Blame games will not help anybody.You must be specific when it comes to indusrlisation because we will find it extremely difficult to compete with the highly industrialised countires in the global market becaus of their scale of production.If Ghana produces say a computer for $20,the same comupter will be sold at $10 somewhere.The source of energy and technology we use here are not comparable to nulear and automated systems of production the advanced countries use.This the reason why many factories have been closed down leading to importation of almost everything.I think we should ask our leaders some serious questions.What kind of solution they have for the country and how they are going to do it.Unfortunately,nobody is interested in putting the intellectual capacity of our leaders to test.We have many presidential candidates but none of them is ready to explain in direct and simple language what kind of strategy he has to reduce poverty,create jobs and build a better nation.All that we hear is Nana Addo,Alan etc yet we don't even know what they can do.I think,we need some intellectual debate on geoplolitics and geostrategy.Ofcourse,only a miracle can save us because we are not searching for solution.Thank you.

According to a list published by Ghanaweb, Forbes Africa today released a list of richest people in Ghana. Unsurprisingly, all of the men who made the list are heavily involved in politics. What message is this telling us younger folks? Think about that for a second.

According to the list the Mahama family which comprises of the current president and his two brothers (Alfred and Ibrahim) are worth over $3Billion which will make them the richest family in Ghana!

We doubt the authenticity of the report since we all know nobody declare their asset in Ghana, it is hard to really know how much one is worth.

Surely, some if them worked hard for it. Others simply shifted State resources that they had exclusive access to into their private ownership.

If we assess what jobs, businesses, and investments each of these people have ever kept, including any inheritance they might have obtained, it would still be difficult for most if these folks to justify their stated wealth.

How about the former Presidents and the EO-Group Partners? Where do they rank? The list must be comprehensive and authentic.

Nothing,infact nothing,is going on in Ghana,which atleast could give us hope that it may be well.All we hear from the President day in,day out are promises he knows very well with the present situation he can never fulfil.The man is in a dream land,hoping the Chinese will bail him out,with the three Billion Dollar loan,but,even if, the Chinese will give him that loan(which i doubt,the Chinese are using it just to bring their citizens to Ghana to destroy our ernviroment)it can`t solve our problems.
The corruption and incompetence in Government is too much.And the lies,now they will come on Radio to tell Ghanaians to ignore these reports,because it is just an NPP propaganda.

The Mahama led NDC gov't's financial and economic policies are decades late, and clearly unsuited for economic governance of the country, and coupled with the incompetence, corruption and looting, Ghana is indeed, in for a very long rough ride of bone jarring and bone crushing 24/7 cycle of first hardships and second, nothingness, in the sense that, they cannot save the economy. A careful study of the facts shows that, Ghana does not need a bailout from the IMF. What Ghana needs is a bailout from incompetence, corruption and looting which has become the de-facto policy of governance under the Mahama led NDC gov't. Ghana needs to oblige the NDC gov't at the ballot box and send them packing.

Both our Parliament and the Executive are to blame for the downward spiral of the Economy. The President has so far been weakened by the numerous scandals within his Government, and does not seem to have the moral courage to demand rigorous vetting of those stealing from the State.

He should have invoked executive Powers to push for speedy retrieval of all stolen monies in SADA, GYEEDA, Judgment Debts. Etc.

His failure to do so raises suspicions of his own culpability in one way or another for the blatant widespread corruption around him.

It is not enough to just reshuffle his Adminstration. Even the reshuffle did not hit where it could make any significant impact.

The President should not seek a second term. A more dynamic leader with no baggage and indebtedness to cronies, etc. is what the Country needs now. Ghana needs a strong, fair and selfless President to fix the Economy, starting with stringent corruption-busting measures. Right now, the more we shout our concerns about the ailing Economy, the faster and more aptly do the "buglars-in-suit" race to grab at whatever is left in our Treasury. They are clamoring to steal more knowing their chances of retaining power is fast diminishing.

The day the government of Ghana stops discriminating against Eastern Region particularly the at least 12 Akyem districts which make up more than half of the population of the region the economy would start recovering.

The Bank of Ghana (BOG) has no Eastern Regional headoffice. I don´t believe that the BOG has accurate data of the economic activity in the at least 12 Akyem districts which make up more than half the population on the region. The GDP and GNI of these Akyem districts are very high. They stem from:

Gold mining
Diamond mining
Cocoa
Oil Palm (the largest in West Africa)
Timber
Software development
etc

The money supply and capital in the at least 12 Akyem districts are wholly inadequate. BOG must remove impediments to the setting up of rural banks in these districts and encourage ADB and GCB to open branches in these districts.

The government must further ensure that wholly owned Ghanaian banks, including rural banks, get at least 80% of the banking revenue.
