Afoko is my man – Nana Akufo-Addo

Intelligence report picked up by The Chronicle at press time last night indicates that Mr. Paul Afoko, one of the candidates seeking to become the national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been endorsed by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the party.

“He is my man for the job. I believe he will bring his expertise onboard to unite us and win power from the National Democratic Congress,” a source close to Nana Addo told The Chronicle. One of Nana Addo’s loyalists, Nana Akomea confirmed to The Chronicle that Nana Addo has indeed endorsed Paul Afoko.

According to Nana Akomea, Nana Addo believes that there is the need for a broad based national executive to run the party in order to get the whole country behind the elephant family, in their quest to wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). He said in the scheme of things, power was key and Mr. Afoko’s chairmanship was crucial.

Nana Akomea had earlier endorsed the candidature of Mr. Paul Afoko at the Osu Presbyterian Church, when he joined the astute businessman in March 2014, to address delegates of the Greater Accra Region.

Since then, he has continued to campaign and canvass for more votes for Mr. Afoko on every platform he has mounted. His decision to support Mr. Afoko, The Chronicle learnt, is backed by Nana Addo.

The Chronicle is reliably informed that before Nana Akomea joined Mr. Afoko at the Osu Presbyterian Church to address the delegates, he sought the permission from Nana Addo.

The former Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South, allegedly explained to Nana Addo why Mr. Afoko’s chairmanship would best serve the elephant family and his (Nana) presidential ambition.

Nana Akomea, according to our intelligence, reportedly told Nana Addo that Mr. Afoko’s chairmanship would help the factions in the party together.

He again told the 2012 flagbearer that the possibility of an all Akan national executive and an Akan Presidential candidate would not get for the party in the next general elections, and so his best bet will be to go with Mr. Afoko.

Nana Akomea assured Nana Addo that he would definitely win the flagbearership contest of the NPP and that if Mr. Afoko is elected chairman, the so-called factions in the party would come together for victory.

It was these suggestions from the former MP that convinced Nana Addo to go ahead to endorse and campaign for Mr. Afoko.
