Azumah Nelson escapes death

Professor Azumah Nelson, a retired professional Ghanaian Boxer, was involved in an accident at Odorkor on the Kaneshie-Mallam road Saturday night.

Professor Nelson, the former two-time WBC featherweight champion, according to infor­mation gathered, was brutally injured and is currently on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital receiving treatment.

Eyewitness account indicat­ed that Professor Nelson, who was driving a Ford 4x4 red vehi­cle with registration number GE 9116-11 attempted to take a bend towards Kwashieman from Sakaman near Mallam, when a Nissan Almera with registration number GS 5593-13 and driven by Kaku Moses ran into his vehi­cle.

Professor Nelson, who was severely injured as a result of the impact, bled profusely and was consequently rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

However, the taxi driver, who also got injured, was sent to the same health facility for treat­ment, but he was discharged that same day.

DSP Abdulai Mumuni, the Odorkor Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Com­mander when contacted con­firmed the accident to the paper adding that it occurred around 10:30pm in the night.

He said both cars are cur­rently at the police station while investigations are ongoing.
