Dr. Serebour is wrong to say that the letter from the sector minister accused either nurse or a doctor for any wrong doing. The letter is asking all staff on duty at the time of the incident to proceed on leave whilst the matter is investigated. It didn't target anyone. This is a common practice in all govt institutions for the accused to be interdicted to make room for effective investigation. GMA should not play their usual politics with this matter. If Dr. Serebour knows what is happening on the ground, they comply with the directives from the govt. We cannot live in a lawless country or one group pretending to be above the law.

Are u sure you know what the Minster said at the press conference? Why won't you just make some effort to research before coming out so confidently to disgrace yourself. The Minister specifically asked the doctor on duty and and attending midwife to proceed on leave and referred them to their regulatory councils for further action.
And how could she have asked all staff on duty to proceed on leave? I' m not sure you know anything about KATH or any hospital in Ghana, because such a radical and senseless directive would hv collapsed the hospital.

I agreed with you Moyo. The Minister acted properly. Even, if she knew those involved she cannot mention names in the media lest she may find herself in legal wragglings.
Second, she may put the lives of those involved at risk and ridicule. Dr. Serebour has already given the answer and must be interdicted. For suggesting that no Doctor was involved in the babies disappearance implied that he knows more about the case than any other person.
My instinct tells me these babies might have already been sold to Ghanaians resident abroad who are desperate to adopt children as they could not conceive themselves.
At worst, they could be sold into slavery as child labourers. This is sad.

There is nothing more unrealistic and stupid than to deny for someone else. What even your child can do behind your back will shock you - not to talk of other people, never mind that they are your colleagues. So is it too hard for a well-learned person like a Doctor to understand this simple fact?
Now these are the kind of things Think-Tanks analyse to enable people understand issues better. But not in Ghana - our Think 'Tanks only concentrate on politics.
As for our journalists this level of reasoning is too hard for them so they concentrate on stomach journalism. Komla Dumor died with journalism in Ghana.
Dr Serebour, you are making a fool of yourself.

Nobody can hide the light and true destiny of the great nation of Akan. they use all kinds of schemes and tricks to undermine or deny a proper standard to us but we shall never surrender. we shall change and adapt as like the Israelis we are the chosen people of God and he in his great design has made us diverse but unified in spirit. the ashantis like the tribe of Judah are and will remain an integral part of our being to to attack any one part we all end up feeling it sooner or later. they have succeed in turning some of our chiefs and kings against us and work for their evil ungodly agenda but we still see clearly . God has brought us into the 21st century and with that a new system of governance and state of mind based on democracy since it is HE alone who blesses the individuals with the gift of leadership wisdom and justice irrespective of status at birth. he has shown us the blue print of the way forward in the bible and other holy books and the time has come to free ourselves from this man made bondage called Ghana. just as in the Ukraine we must fight so the truth will come out , fear not the battle as they will crumble like the walls of Jericho . cast away our so called fake leaders and politicians who are nothing but cowards and like our enemies fear even their own shadows . yes God has put a million fears in their empty bodies as he who does not fear the Lord , the Lord will ensure all fears of the world will reside in him. They threaten us with superstition , juju and what have you and we say fuck you and go to hell as the divine power is with us . Yes all the tribes of Akan are fingers on the same hands and God has ordained we remain united so our strength and light will be visible throughout the whole world and universe , our time has come . everyday its becoming clearer and clearer to all children of Akan that we must prepare mentally for a battle of freedom . they come with tricks that say we must take a non Akan as our leader because its nice ? do they not think that out of 30 million Akans we can not find sensible down to earth leaders and warriors to lead our own people to our own destiny? a govt of the people and by the people is what the 21st century democracy is all about . let them continue to play with the consensus and other figures that justify their fantasy and enable them to marginalize the participation of the Akan majority in the Affairs of their own land , to marginalize us thus preventing us to afford a better standard for our people . The had of God has given them pestilence after pestilence but they refuse to let our people go , soon they will be swept away like chaff in the hurricane of fury . Long live the republic of Akan and don't you forget it as now the Fanti speakers, Twi speakers, Ashantis and other tribes of Akan are now one .

The minister is perhaps not aware that doctors do not attend every delivery in any hospital in Ghana or a lot of developed countries. In the UK as in Ghana most deliveries are attended only by Midwives. So directing that the doctor and Nurse on duty should be dismissed shows her naivety and ignorance of how the hospital within the ministry she is supposed to head works. Besides there are a lot of people involved in transporting a dead baby such as porters and mortuary personal and the problem my be with transiting the dead babies and nothing to do with the doctor or nurse on duty. Besides there are several levels of doctors on duty such as a Consultant, a Resident or even a House officer, so which of them is the Minister asking to be sacked. In such circumstances one has to keep quite, support an investigative process and see where the problems lie instead of giving blank and useless directives and showing her ignorance of the system she is supposed to head.

Yes zaazaa, I know what I am saying for a fact with no assumption. I said 'in many developed countries doctors do not attend all deliveries', and cited UK as an example, but I never said all countries, so Papua New Guinea could be doing it differently from Ghana. Actually Ghana's health system has been based on the British system with Midwives attending low risk deliveries and Obstetricians taking care of complicated pregnancies. In North America where Midwifery is not widely practised, doctors and in deed Family Physicians attend all deliveries. But in Ghana everybody knows that deliveries are not attended by doctors so I am not actually making assumption except if you live in Papua New Guinea and you are not aware of Ghana's Health system. Besides I know for a fact because I have worked in the health system in Ghana for several years, that transiting dead fetuses between the ward and the mortuary is not done by doctors or nurses. So my advice to the health minister is to await the end of the investigation as being advised by the GMA and then take the necessary actions as per the findings. Where in my debate am I making assumptions zaazaa?

How can a whole minister of health make a directive without mentioning of a name(s) of the professionals? It just shows the level of incompetence right at her doorstep. It is common for most deliveries to be attended by midwives instead of a doctor. Doctors usually come in when the midwife has reached her boundary of practice and requires the skills and experience of the doctor. But they should speed up their investigation to put all grieving families at peace. If midwife (s) assisted the delivery, then their names should be made known to the Ministry of health and Nursing & Midwifery Council. This will avoid the error of the minister generalising the staff on duty.

Dr.Serebuor,You can't shift blame. The maternity wing of KATH is definitely under the gynaecological dept which must be headed by a Dr.gynaecologist/obstetrician. Since Drs take pay for 24hrs duty, at any given point in time, there must be doctor(s) incharge,on call or on duty.If this is not the case, then KATH does not deserve or qualify to be Teaching/tertiary hospital.
The Minister was therefore right to ask the hospital to make the doctor and nurse incharge to proceed on leave. Dr. Serebour is saying the directive failed to name the Dr N nurse on duty N therefore null N void? The CEO of KATH must identify these people and act accordingly if he can not, then he does not deserve to be the CEO N must resign. The issue is about a breach of trust and duty of care by KATH N one would expect the CEO N the public relations office of KATH to be the main people to be releasing statements But for Dr. Serebour to take the matter so personal N as though the Minister/Suweiba-Abdul Mumin on one hand was in a tussle with the GMA on the other is most unfortunate N irresponsible on his part. How do you say that all the staff at the gynaecological dept be sanctioned(so that the whole unit is closed down) when indeed there was a particular nurse who conducted the delivery n pronounce the baby dead. From there whom did she hand over the baby to? N the doctor on duty has a supervisory role over the nurses on duty n how new borns whether dead or alive are managed. Why wouldn't doctor Serebour even support the Minister N KATH to unravel circumstances leading to the missing still baby, audit the death N come out with interventions to prevent babies from missing N also to help reduce the stillbrth rate and to redeem the image of KATH its Staff?, but rather engaging himself in putting impediments into the course of justice N trying to down play any effort that is made to unravel the mystery. I have been following this story N from all indications,Had the MOH not come in,it appears Kath on its own, would have done nothing about the missing still birth baby (ies).
It is high time the MOH places CCT cameras in all the Teaching, regional and district hospitals so that incidence of such nature could easily be captured.
Ernestly speaking the approach of Dr.Serebour in this case lives much to be desired N I will plead with him to rather sit with KATH N MOH so that they would Jaw Jaw for a solution instead of engaging in War of words in the media.
