Trade Ministry to meet anti-pirated textiles taskforce

The Trade Ministry will be meeting members of the Anti-Pirated Textiles taskforce Tuesday.

The meeting will resolve the impasse over the suspension of activities of the taskforce.

Deputy Trade Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuije suspended the swoops of the taskforce following concerns over the seizure of some 1,000 pieces of pirated textiles.

The Textile, Garment and Leather Workers Union has however opposed the directive.

General Secretary Abraham Koomson in an interview with XYZ Business said the unilateral decision taken by government will collapse the textile industry.

Mr. Koomson added that textile companies will lose huge revenue to importers of pirated textiles if government does not rescind its decision.
